Paints one layer at a time

airh is a small painting studio — one artist, a lot of acrylic, and canvases built up slowly, one layer at a time.

Commissions from your own photographs, impasto you can almost touch, ideas of my own, and the images that stopped my scroll — each painted by hand, each one of one.

The story

In three chapters

  1. The artist seated on a windowsill in afternoon light, head tilted back towards the window.
    Chapter 1 · The hobby
What began as a hobby to keep me from doom-scrolling slowly metamorphosed into a life I don’t remember ever dreaming of.
  2. A cubist repainting of Girl with a Pearl Earring on canvas, standing on a wooden easel.
    Chapter 2 · The finding
Somewhere between restless thoughts and quiet hours with a brush in my hand, I realised that art was not merely something I made — art was where I went to find myself.
  3. Rose Fracture — shards of rose, crimson and green held together by one flowing black line.
    Chapter 3 · The medicine
And of one thing I’m certain: art is the medicine I will always find my way back to, no matter how far I may stray.

In their words

  • I love that the artist has brought a touch of her personal style in bringing my favourite video game scene into a painting. The texture adds a third dimension to an otherwise two dimension painting. I am incredibly happy with the painting. The addition of a part of the color palette used for this painting in the back of the painting is such a cute thing to do. People who visited my home liked the painting a lot and mentioned that it was a really nice addition to my work room. Thanks a lot.

  • that's RAD. I really appreciate the use of SUPER dark cool colors, almost black-purples juxtaposed to vivid "golden hour" warm colors. Especially deep Reds and crimsons. Excellent ability to apply lighting effects as well as keeping a large amount of the color is vivid as possible. by doing this, getting most out of your medium. I see restraint against over-mixing, providing ample vividness, furthering the contrast along with the sharp lighting. I can almost feel the characters. even be... in the "elven*" archer's shoes. *not sure if going for that. needs citation

  • Didn’t expect to stop scrolling for a mountain, but here we are. Had to zoom in — the snow on those ridges is actually raised.

  • It hangs above my desk and catches the late light every evening. Guests always reach out to touch the foam — I’ve stopped telling them not to.

  • I sent one blurry photo from a trip years ago and a long voice note about who my partner is — loud, warm, impossible to sit still. What came back was him, completely. It arrived wrapped like a gift, with a little strip of the palette painted on the back. It’s the best present I’ve ever given anyone, and I’ve already started planning the next one for my parents’ anniversary.

  • Renaissance man discovers pepperoni. Genuinely would hang this in my kitchen — the flat ochre and navy make it feel like a vintage poster.

  • Got it framed this weekend. Loudest thing in my living room and I love it.
